On Friday October 21, the Old Timers Cabin hosted NAPDA’s Annual Roundup & Life Membership 2016 event. The cabin was decorated, lit up and ready for the guests, members, speakers and musicians. It has been a wonderful evening in which the enchanting ambiance of the cabin was accentuated by the lovely music, inviting table centre pieces, delightful food, and great company.
After the reception, the roundup set off with beautiful piping music by Erin MacKinnon, the Grand March and then everyone singing to the national anthem. ‘O Canada’ charged the cabin with enthusiasm and warmth. The march included: Tim Reid, CEO of Northlands; Shirley Lowe, Edmonton Historian Laureate 2012-2014; Allan Farrants, NAPDA President; Alison Dennis; Stefan Golland; Bob Golland, RCMP; and Fred Stephenson, past NAPDA President.
The Life Members honoured were Gladys R. Bodnar, Lang A. Jameson, Janice Miller, Wayne E. McMillan, Louise E. Olshewski, Mary Plitt, and Dawna M. Scruton.
The guest speaker, Historian Laureate Shirley Lowe, gave a fascinating and informative speech titled “100 Years of Women Getting the Vote” accompanied by visual presentation slides.
Speeches were given by other guest visitors such as Tim Reid, CEO of Northlands and Bob Golland, RCMP.
The delicious food was catered by Creative Quality Catering and the bar service by BottomzUp Bartending & Events. The food and wine complemented the entire warm ambiance of the evening.
Nothing would tie all this together more than charming music. Our guest musician, Alex Russo, played the piano and accordion skillfully to a variety of tunes.
We would like to thank all those who have helped organize NAPDA’s Annual Roundup & Life Membership, especially NAPDA’s Executive Director, Dorinda Emery. The evening was MC-ed by Fred Stephenson, past NAPDA President.
